Early Menopause Causes in Women with Diabetes

Causes of early menopause in women with diabetes:

A serious disease like diabetes was earlier seen in older people, but now it is troubling even very young children. According to the report of the World Health Organization, one out of every 10 people in the country has diabetes. A report by the International Diabetes Federation states that there are more than 77 million diabetes patients in India by 2021 and this figure may reach 100 million by 2030. This is why India is called the diabetes capital of the world.

Cases of diabetes are seen in women at an earlier age than men. Research conducted on women suffering from diabetes has revealed that they undergo menopause sooner than normal women. The study, conducted by Canadian researchers, used data from a larger group of premenopausal women diagnosed with diabetes. The analysis included 11,436 women who were weighed to represent a population of 1474,412 Canadian women aged 45–85 years. After this research came to light, women suffering from diabetes have only one question in their mind whether they get menopause sooner than normal women.

To know the answer to this question, we talked to Diabetologist Shweta Buddhayal of Fortis Hospital. The doctor says that diabetes is a lifestyle disease, which occurs due to reasons like wrong eating habits, obesity, not doing physical work, not exercising. Nowadays, women have started suffering from PCOD at an early age, due to which they also have the possibility of getting diabetes. PCOD is also caused by obesity and the wrong lifestyle.

Women who have diabetes during pregnancy, which gets cured after delivery, are more likely to develop diabetes later on, hence such women should pay attention to their health and lifestyle. If there have been cases of diabetes in your family history, then you can also get this disease, hence you should be alert and keep getting regular checkups done.

Do diabetic women get menopause early?

Diabetologist Shweta Buddhayal says that the environment and food of India is quite different from that of Canada. Therefore, it is difficult to say whether this study is accurate on Indian women also. He said that due to diabetes, women may face early menopause in only a few cases. The doctor says that this problem usually occurs in women suffering from diabetes above 45 years of age. Type 2 diabetes usually starts in women after menopause at the age of 40.
