Orlando Jonathan Blanchard Bloom was born on January 13, 1977 in Canterbury, England. It was named after Orlando Gibbons, a composer who lived in the 16th century. He has an older sister, Samantha Bloom, who was born in 1975. Since birth, he believed that his father was his mother’s late husband – the Jewish, South African-born novelist Harry Saul Bloom – who died in 1981, when Orlando was four years old.

However, nine years after Harry’s death, when Orlando had just turned 13, his mother revealed to him that his biological father was Colin Stone, with whom the still-married Sonia had a brief affair. After the death of Harry Bloom, Colin – then the director of Concorde International Language School – was appointed as legal guardian.

His mother, Sonia Constance Josephine Bloom (née Constance Josephine Copeland), was born in Calcutta, India to Francis John Copeland, a physician and surgeon, and Betty Constance Josephine. Orlando is the cousin of photographer Sebastian Copeland on his mother’s side. Sonia’s family is originally from England, but they also lived in Australia, Japan and India.

Orlando is a follower of the Anglican Church and began his education at St. Peter’s Methodist Primary School. During his elementary school years, he changed schools several times, after St. Peter’s Methodist he was a student at The King’s School Canterbury and then at St Edmund’s School. It was during these years that Orlando was found to be dyslexic.

After that, his mother encouraged him to try his luck in art and drama classes. In 1993 he moved to London to take a two-year drama course at the Fine Arts College, Hampstead. After his studies, he joined the actors of the National Youth Theatre, where he earned a scholarship in two seasons, which allowed him to enter the British American Drama Academy. Soon he got a taste of the world of TV and movies, at first we saw him as an extra,

Orlando Bloom Career

He got his first role in the series Casualty in 1994, where he appeared in a total of three episodes until 1996. In 1997, he appeared for a few minutes in the  Oscar Wilde biographical drama Wilde, and in 2000 he had a  guest role in the crime series Midsomer Murders.

In 1999, he got the role of Legolas in the film trilogy based on JRR Tolkien’s novels of the same name, The Lord of the Rings, which is still considered his most famous film. He originally applied for the role of Faramir, who only appears in the second and third films, but director Peter Jackson noticed his potential and cast him as Legolas. Filming began in New Zealand in October 1999 and ended in December 2000.

Despite the fact that the time frame intended for the filming was still exceeded, in 2001 the director called the actors together again and additional scenes were filmed until 2004 (including the 3-4 hour films that were later released as a director’s version). The first film,  The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the RingIt was released in December 2001. The film was the second highest-grossing production of the year after the first Harry Potter film, and at the 2002 Oscars, it was able to collect four golden statuettes.

In December 2002, the second part of the trilogy, The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers, debuted, which brought in more than the first film – it is still only the second highest-grossing film of the year after Spider-Man. On the other hand, The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, released in December 2003,  was considered the most successful film of the year, and in 2004 it collected a total of 11 Oscars.

In addition to The Lord of the Rings, we saw him in the historical drama Black Hawk Down in 2001 alongside Josh Hartnett and Ewan McGregor. In 2003, he had a  major role in the biographical drama Ned Kelly, alongside Heath Ledger, Geoffrey Rush and Naomi Watts. In the same year, he received his second iconic role as Will Turner in the Disney production Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, which also starred Johnny Depp and Keira Knightley.

The film was a box office hit in the summer of 2003, grossing more than $300 million. Subsequently, in 2004Troyin the adventure film called Paris. In 2005, in addition to the comedy Elizabethtown, he had the lead role in the film the Kingdom of Heaven, in which other well-known actors such as Eva Green, Liam Neeson, Jeremy Irons and Edward Norton appeared.

In 2006, the sequel to  Pirates of the Caribbean, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest, was released. Even though it was not well received by critics, it was the highest-grossing film of 2006 with over $400 million. A year later, in 2007, the third part arrived under the title Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End. For the third run, the film brought much less to the kitchen, and the critics were still not as entertained by the production as it was announced. Nevertheless, the franchise continued in 2011, but neither Orlando nor Keira Knightley were cast in this part.

In 2008, he played a role in the star-studded comedy  New York, I Love You, and in 2010, he was seen alongside Colin Firth in the drama Main Street. In 2011, he starred in the drama The Good Doctor, and in the same year he played the role of the Duke of Buckingham in the film The Three Musketeers, based on the iconic novel.

Director Peter Jackson had planned to film a prequel to the trilogy since The Lord of the Rings, and in May 2011 it was announced that Orlando would return to the series as Legolas. Like its sister series, the first part of The Hobbit, which runs as a trilogy, was published in 2012 – although we cannot yet meet the character of Legolas in it. The sequel  The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug (The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug) was released in December 2013, and then  The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies, which concluded the trilogy, debuted in 2014. Growing up in the shadow of The Lord of the Rings, the film series enjoyed much less success, but fans and critics alike followed Peter Jackson’s latest work with satisfaction.

In 2015, he got a role in the movie Digging for Fire, and in 2016, we saw him in just one guest role, appearing in the first season of the Netflix series Easy. In 2017, we saw him again in the role of Will Turner in the film Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, which is now the fifth installment of the Pirates of the Caribbean film series.

The production was a failure among critics, but it excelled in terms of income, as it brought in almost 800,000 dollars worldwide. His TV movie Tour de Pharmacy was released in 2017, and SMART Chase debuted this year also his action film. In 2019, she appeared in the horror-fantasy series Carnival Row opposite Cara Delevingne.

Due to the coronavirus epidemic, instead of the Southwest by Southwest Film Festival, on July 3, 2020, the war film The Garrison, in which Benjamin Keating plays the role of First Lieutenant Benjamin Keating, was screened in only a few selected cinemas. In 2021, he lent his voice to Prince Harry in the cartoon series The Prince and was Freida Pinto’s partner in the science fiction Timeless Love. Wizards is expected by 2023! comedy.

Orlando Bloom Private Life

He started dating fellow actor Kate Bosworth in 2003, with whom he broke up for good in September 2006 after more or less ups and downs. At the end of 2007, he started dating Australian model Miranda Kerr, with whom he announced his engagement in June 2010. The couple married in July 2010 and had their first child together, Flynn Christopher Blanchard Copeland Bloom, on January 6, 2011. On October 25, 2013, they announced that they had separated months before and wanted to end their marriage.

In 2009, a gang of thieves known as the Bling Ring broke into Orlando and Miranda’s Los Angeles home and stole millions of dollars worth of jewelry and clothing.

In January 2016, rumors surfaced that he was in a relationship with singer Katy Perry, and the speculations were put to rest by the photos published in March 2016 of the pair walking hand in hand during their vacation in Hawaii. Their relationship ended after one year, in March 2017.

The breakup was confirmed by the spokesmen of both parties, and in the issued statement they also mentioned that they remained close friends. The singer also voiced this on her Twitter profile ( “How about if 2017 was the year of new perceptions? You can love and be a good friend to your former partner, no one is a victim or a bad guy.”), after the press created a case out of the incident. They warmed up their relationship again in 2018; In 2019, on Valentine’s Day, Orlando proposed to Katy. Their daughter, Daisy Dove, was born in August 2020.
